Jenna and Jarrod’s elopement on Madeline Island was such a memorable experience. They began their day by writing their vows together over coffee in the early morning, before the sun rose. Once they finished, they got ready separately and shared a laid back first look in the living room of their bungalow.

An intentional ceremony at Big Bay State Park
We arrived at Big Bay State Park before sunrise and took a short walk to the spot where they planned to exchange their personal vows. They had the entire place to themselves, not a single other person in sight. This is exactly why I highly recommend eloping at the crack of dawn if privacy is important to you, especially in popular locations like this one.
Since it was still a bit dark when we arrived, they had time to soak in the views and share a few quiet moments together before we began. It was a dark, foggy morning, and the sun stayed hidden behind the clouds. That fog created a moody, atmospheric setting that felt incredibly fitting for their vows and portraits. Jenna and Jarrod shared vows they had written themselves, both vulnerable, honest, and deeply romantic.

Picnic & canoeing adventure
After their vows, we spent some time exploring the trail and stopping at a few overlooks for photos. Madeline Island truly has some of the most stunning views in the state. Once we wrapped up at the state park, we headed to another location where they enjoyed a beach picnic with champagne and a cake made by Jenna’s aunt, even though it got a little smooshed during transit. They took their time relaxing, enjoying the views of Lake Superior, and being fully present together.
Afterwards, they walked along the boardwalk before getting ready for a canoeing adventure in the lagoon. Even though it was closer to late morning by this point, they still mostly had the place to themselves, aside from a couple of elderly tourists. This is another reason I always recommend eloping on a weekday. Canoes were easy to rent using an honor system, and Jenna and Jarrod spent time out on the water just enjoying the experience. The sun even came out right on cue so they could fully enjoy being on the lake.

Once we finished canoeing, we headed into town for lunch at The Pub Restaurant & Wine Bar, where they enjoyed good food and drinks together. That wrapped up Jenna and Jarrod’s elopement on Madeline Island!
