Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore stretches for over 40 miles along Lake Superior and is one of the most well-known locations in the Upper Peninsula. The area offers beaches, cliffs, waterfalls, and hiking trails. Miners Beach and Sand Point Beach are the only approved locations for legal ceremonies in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Both offer an incredible view of the shoreline along Lake Superior, but there are plenty of other beautiful places to explore and take pictures. This location has tons of hikes that lead to more secluded spots for private vows or to share a picnic.

The Keweenaw Peninsula
The Keweenaw Peninsula, is full of incredible views of Lake Superior, hiking trails, and waterfalls, and is one of my personal favorite places to elope in the Upper Peninsula. Copper Harbor is a remote location, but can get busy during the summer so you’ve got to plan it right. It has plenty of hiking trails, copper colored beaches, and for a scenic drive, Brockway Mountain Drive offers stunning views of Lake Superior and the surrounding hills. There are lots of other lesser known locations in this area too that offer privacy and plenty of adventure.

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park
For couples who want a true wilderness experience, Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park (also known as the Porkies) is an remote location. With over 60,000 acres of forest, waterfalls, and high overlooks, this area is great for an Upper Peninsula elopement if you want mountain views, which are hard to come by in the midwest! This location is especially stunning during the fall, as you can have your ceremony overlooking this lake with panoramic views of the fall colors. Marquette
Marquette is the largest city in the Upper Peninsula, but it still provides plenty of opportunities for an epic outdoor elopement. From black rocks, to hidden beaches, to mountain views of the whole city, there’s a wide variety of landscapes here for your elopement! If you want a mix of nature and city amenities, Marquette’s historic downtown has plenty of great places to celebrate after your ceremony.

Isle Royale National Park
Isle Royale National Park is one of the most remote places you can elope in the Upper Peninsula. Accessible only by boat or seaplane, this island in Lake Superior is perfect for couples looking for privacy and adventure. Rock Harbor and Windigo are the two main entry points, both offering trails, shorelines, and beautiful quiet spots for your ceremony. Because this location is so remote, you’ll want to prepare for at least 2-3 days here. This location is best for couples who want to hike on their elopement day, since most spots will require at least some hiking to reach.

The Far Western Upper Peninsula
As a Wisconsinite, I am very familiar with the far Western U.P. (which should be part of WI honestly, jk jk). There are so many stunning waterfalls in this area of the Upper Peninsula. Many of them requiring a hike, but many of the hikes aren’t long or difficult at all. Plus, this area of the U.P. is not as well known or explored like some of the other locations on this list. If you want to elope somewhere truly unique that no one has ever gotten married before, the Western Upper Peninsula might be your spot!
