Why Elope in Breckenridge
Breckenridge, Colorado, is one of the best places to elope in CO. The town offers easy access to mountain landscapes, year-round activities, and the option to self-solemnize, meaning you don’t need an officiant to get married. Whether you want to hike to an alpine lake, ski down the slopes, or have a quiet ceremony by the water, Breckenridge has a variety of locations to fit your vision.

When to Elope in Breckenridge
Each season in Breckenridge offers a different experience, so it’s important to choose a time that fits your vision:
Summer (June–September)
This is the best time to elope in Breckenridge, CO if you want warm weather, open hiking trails, wildflowers, and long daylight hours. Afternoon storms are common, so planning for a sunrise or sunset ceremony will help avoid unpredictable weather.
Fall (September–October)
Golden aspen trees cover the mountainsides, creating a beautiful setting for an elopement. The cooler temperatures make hiking more comfortable, and the fall colors typically peak in late September. Since this is a short season, booking early ensures you catch the best of it.
Winter (November–April)
A winter elopement in Breckenridge means snowy landscapes and the option to incorporate skiing or snowboarding into your day. Many locations require snowshoes or a 4WD vehicle for access. Winter conditions can be harsh, so dressing warmly and being prepared for the cold is key.
Spring (April–May)
Fewer crowds and a quieter atmosphere make spring a good option, but the weather is unpredictable. Melting snow leads to muddy trails, and some roads remain closed until late May. Snow may even still be on the ground until June in some spots. If you elope in spring, flexibility is essential.

Adjusting to the Altitude

How to Include Guests in Your Breckenridge Elopement
Many couples choose to elope alone, but including a small number of guests is completely up to you! Accessibility is an important factor when choosing a location. Spots like Sapphire Point are easier to reach, while locations that require hiking may not be suitable for all guests. Some public lands have group size restrictions or require a special-use permit for ceremonies, so checking regulations in advance is important. Additionally, guests who aren’t used to high altitude should take precautions to adjust. If you’re including guests, consider a location with easy access and have a backup indoor option in case of weather changes. Making Your Elopement Meaningful
Your elopement should reflect your relationship. Writing personal vows, bringing a small picnic to celebrate, or incorporating an activity you love—whether it’s hiking, skiing, or watercraft activities—can make the day an experience rather than just a quick ceremony. Breckenridge is pet-friendly, so if you have a dog, many locations allow them to be part of the ceremony.
